The University of Kansas invites applications and nominations for the position of Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor for the Lawrence Campus. The University is a tradition-rich, comprehensive public research university with a distinguished history. Opened in 1866, the university was one of the first 11 public universities to be admitted to the Association of American Universities and was granted the first chapters of Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Xi west of the Mississippi River. The University of Kansas is one of the few public institutions of higher learning founded in the 1800s that never in its history denied entrance on the basis of race or gender. Throughout its history KU has held high aspirations and today enjoys a national reputation for innovation and academic excellence.

The University includes a main campus in Lawrence, a medical center in Kansas City, a medical school branch in Wichita, a graduate campus for working adults in Overland Park (within metropolitan Kansas City), and educational and research facilities throughout the state. KU is a diversified, broad-based center of learning, scholarship, and research encompassing a college of arts and sciences, 12 professional schools, and a student body of 30,000. Annual research expenditures exceed $300 million, and the university has more than $1 billion in endowment.

The Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor reports directly to the Chancellor and is the chief academic and operating officer of the Lawrence campus of the University. As chief academic officer the Provost has a primary responsibility to advance the academic and scholarly missions of the University.

The Search Committee seeks candidates with a comprehensive understanding of higher education, a record of intellectual and scholarly distinction, the ability to communicate the mission, goals, activities, and fiscal needs of the university to its varied constituencies, and effective leadership and management skills. The successful candidate will have an innovative vision for teaching, research and service, an appreciation of the strengths and traditions of the University of Kansas, and a dedication to and passion for quality undergraduate and graduate education.
