Handbook for Faculty and Other Unclassified Staff – 1986

Preface

This Handbook is intended as a convenient reference text for policies and information concerning employment and professional activities at the University of Kansas, Lawrence Campus. As such, it includes policies for Faculty and other Unclassified Staff; many of these approved policies are published in full in a variety of other sources, including Policies and Procedures (Board of Regents, State of Kansas), the University of Kansas Senate Code and Rules and Regulations, the Faculty Senate Rules and Regulations, and the University of Kansas Affirmative Action Handbook. Revisions in this Handbook are coordinated by the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, with the assistance of the University Senate Executive Committee, the other Vice Chancellors, the University Directors, the University General Counsel, and others. Recommendations for changes or additions to this Handbook may be communicated to the appropriate Vice Chancellor or University Director, or to the University Senate Executive Committee. When a major reorganization of this Handbook is contemplated, a committee including representatives of all areas of the Lawrence and Kansas City campuses shall be convened by the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. Comments and recommendations for changes shall be invited from all interested parties. All proposed changes, additions and deletions shall be reviewed by the University Senate Executive Committee and by the appropriate administrative offices. Such changes in policies and procedures shall be made only after their adoption through appropriate channels, such as the Kansas State Legislature, the Board of Regents, the University Senate, and/or the Chancellor. A final revised draft of this Handbook shall be reviewed by the University Senate Executive Committee, the Vice Chancellors and University Directors, and the University General Counsel, and shall be reviewed and approved by the Chancellor prior to its publication. Changes in policies and procedures which are adopted after the publication of any edition of this Handbook are effective upon adoption and will be included in the next edition.
