Distinguished Professors - Call For Nominations

DATE: December 12, 2006
TO: Members of the Faculty
FROM: Provost Richard W. Lariviere
SUBJECT: Call for Nominations for University Distinguished Professorships

The University Committee on Distinguished Professorships invites nominations to fill three University Distinguished Professorships. These professorships are unrestricted and may be filled by a distinguished scholar in any field, although special consideration will be given to nominations of faculty from groups, fields or disciplines that have limited representation among the individuals currently holding named and distinguished professorships. Nominations of women and minority faculty members are particularly encouraged. Only current tenured full professors on the Lawrence campus faculty are eligible for consideration.

Nominations may be initiated by an individual or group within a department or school, by an interdisciplinary group or by an individual faculty member in the University. Nominations should be prepared in accordance with the established criteria and procedures found in the Handbook for Faculty and Other Classified Staff, 1998 (Section C.2.d.), available on the Provost Office website, www.provost.ku.edu.

The nominations and supporting materials should be submitted through the appropriate administrative officers (i.e., departmental chairpersons and/or deans) and include their comments and recommendations. Deans should forward nomination dossiers to: The University Committee on Distinguished Professorships, c/o Office of the Provost. Self-nominations may be submitted directly to the Office of the Provost. However, they will be returned to the department and/or school for review and comment.

The deadline for receipt of nominations is March 1, 2007. All nominations will be reviewed by the University Committee on Distinguished Professorships. Questions about the process can be directed to Mary Lee Hummert, Vice Provost, mlhummert@ku.edu.
