Weapons Inventory for Board of Regents
The Board of Regents recently developed a policy on weapons possession on campus; in turn, KU updated its own weapons policy, now available at https://documents.ku.edu/policies/provost/WeaponsPolicy.htm. We can permit weapons on campus if they are necessary for the "conduct of Board approved academic programs or university approved activities or practices." However, the Board policy requires us to notify the Board in writing of any activities or practices involving weapons that are approved on campus.

At the direction of the Board of Regents, I am collecting information about weapons that are approved for use on the Lawrence campus. If your unit has any weapons that meet the definitions that appear at the bottom of the policy cited above, please complete the weapons request form available at https://documents.ku.edu/policies/provost/WeaponsApprovalRequest.pdf and return an electronic copy to me. Also, please note that although the definitions exclude pocket knives or culinary knives used solely in the preparation of foods, they are otherwise very broad, so weapons that are a part of a museum collection and those that are used in theatrical performances or by sports clubs must be reported. In the case of museum artifacts, we do not need a detailed inventory of each piece—a summary of the numbers and types of weapons and information about how they are secured will suffice.

Thanks for you assistance. Please let me know if you have questions.
