The State of Kansas, Governmental Ethics Commission requires any faculty member other than an adjunct faculty member, employed by KU earning $50,000 or more per year to complete a Statement of Substantial Interests Form.
Even if you make less than $50K, you must also file the statement of Substantial Interests Form if you provide consulting services and promote or oppose action, including expenditure of public funds, by any federal or state agency or political division or representative of a federal or state agency.
The law is in effect and compliance is mandatory. The Kansas authorities take seriously this requirement, and so we must do so as well. Failure to submit the form may result in severe penalties including a Class B Misdemeanor which is punishable by a fine of up to $1000 and a jail term of up to 6 months.
The form is available on-line at http://www.kansas.gov/ethics/pdfs/IVC.PDF
While I understand the burden that this imposes on you, I ask that you comply with this statutory requirement. Thanks for your patience and your help.
Sincerely,
Richard W. Lariviere
