July 3 holiday for University Support Staff
Governor Kathleen Sebelius has declared July 3 as an additional holiday for State employees in appreciation for the service provided to the people of Kansas. However, Kansas Board of Regents (KBOR) policy states, "If any listed or special holidays fall during a time when classes are in session, such holidays shall not be observed by unclassified personnel." Summer classes will be in session on July 3. Therefore, pursuant to KBOR policy, July 3 will not be a holiday for faculty, unclassified professional staff, and unclassified academic staff.

July 3 will be a holiday for university support staff appointed to regular positions; however, many university support staff may be required to work on that day to support summer classes and other activities on campus or to complete processes related to the fiscal year-end closing. University support staff should work on July 3 only with advance supervisory approval. University support staff who are required to work will be granted holiday compensatory time at the rate of 1 1/2 hours for every hour worked on the holiday. Please check with your supervisor to determine whether you will be required to work.

Thank you for your continued service to the University and the State of Kansas. Please feel free to direct any questions to the Department of Human Resources and Equal Opportunity (864-4946).
