Ned Fleming Trust Award
The Ned N. Fleming Trust Award was established by a bequest from the late Mr. Fleming of Topeka. The award includes a one-time stipend of $5,000. Nominees for this annual award are selected from student surveys. The recipient is announced and honored each year at Commencement in May.

Byron Shutz Award
The Byron T. Shutz Award was established by the late Byron T. Shutz in 1978. The Shutz Award carries with it the expectation that the recipient will deliver a public lecture. At the time of the lecture, they will receive an award of $4,000 and a reception held in the recipient’s honor. Nominees for this annual award are selected from student surveys. The recipient is announced and honored each year at Commencement in May.

George & Eleanor Woodyard International Educator Award
The George and Eleanor Woodyard International Educator Award (formerly the Provost’s Award for Leadership in International Education) recognizes faculty who have demonstrated outstanding leadership in strengthening KU’s international dimension. The award is worth $1,000.

H.O.P.E. Teaching Award
The H.O.P.E. (Honor for the Outstanding Progressive Educator) Award was established by the KU class of 1959 to recognize the recipients’ outstanding teaching and concern for students. It is the only KU award for teaching excellence bestowed exclusively by students and is led by the Board of Class Officers. The winner is selected by the senior class members and the award is presented in the fall semester of the senior class year.

Nomination information
A request for nominations is sent to all KU seniors to nominate outstanding professors. Nominations are asked for typically in September/October. The top five faculty members receiving the highest number of nominations are then interviewed by members of the Board of Class Officers and the Senior Advisory Board. Finalists are invited to a reception with previous winners and students as well as a football game where the winner is announced on the field.
