During a September trip to Washington, D.C. to pay visits to Capitol Hill, Chancellor Robert Hemenway stopped by former Senator Robert Dole's office to introduce Provost Richard Lariviere.

Mallory Aiello is a KU graduate and teaches the third grade bilingual class at Thomas Jefferson Elementary School in Palatine Illinois. Recently, Ms. Aiello's students received packages of KU trinkets from Provost Lariviere.

Seven University of Kansas professors began the school year with some added excitement when a “surprise patrol” led by Chancellor Robert Hemenway and Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Richard Lariviere presented them with $5,000 W.T. Kemper Fellowships for Teaching Excellence.

Provost's Parsons Visit

Provost's Visit of KU Life Span Institute at Parsons

David Lindeman, director of the KU Life Span Institute at Parsons, recently hosted a visit to the institute by Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Richard Lariviere along with State Rep. Richard Proehl, R-Parsons. KU programs at Parsons employ 40 research faculty and staff who generate over $5 million in grants annually, The institute has provided direct services, training, or technical assistance to more than 75,000 people in the past five years in more than 450 communities in all 105 Kansas counties.

Kemper Awards

2006 Kemper Awards

Provost Lariviere was a member of the "Surprise Patrol" during the 2006 annual awards of the W.T. Kemper Fellowships for Teaching Excellence at the University of Kansas. The $5,000 awards are supported by $650,000 in gifts from the William T. Kemper Foundation (Commerce Bank, trustee) and $650,000 in matching funds from KU Endowment. The William T. Kemper Foundation was established in 1989 after the death of the Kansas City, Mo., banking executive and civic leader. The foundation supports Midwest communities and concentrates on initiatives in education, health and human services, civic improvements and the arts.

Provost Lariviere honored Becky Saathoff, research aide in the special education education, after she won two silver medals at the Special Olympics national tournament.

Faculty/Staff Tour of Kansas

Faculty/staff tour of Kansas

Provost Lariviere joined the 50 faculty and staff who took a six-day swing across Kansas on the annual Wheat State Whirlwind tour. From the capitol rotunda to riding with buffalo to learning about wheat farming, tour participants got to see what drives the Kansas economy and experience its varied landscape.
